Important Notice Please Read

Swimmers Guide is not connected with any of the facilities listed on this site in any way. We cannot tell you the pools’ opening and closing times or when Senior Aerobics classes are held; we cannot tell you about the availability or cost of swimming lessons; we cannot get you discounted admission to swim at any of them; and we cannot help you find your children’s lost goggles or bathing suits.

We can and do try to give you reliable information about the pools, their locations, their admission policies, and their single-visit or casual swimming prices. Where possible, we include hypertext links to the pools’ own official websites and Facebook pages, clickable email addresses, and links to the websites of the clubs and teams that swim there. Look to those resources within each listing for more detailed information.

The data in the site is under continual review and is revised whenever the site’s editor becomes aware of a change, but, with more than 20,000 listings, a complete, periodic review of every listing takes about seven years to complete; in many places, prices will change four or five times before we have a chance to check the pool’s official website again.

For that reason, we ask for your help: If any of the information in the listing is incorrect, out of date, or could be improved, please tell us. There is an "Edit" button on just about every line of every listing, click on the edit button to tell us what needs to be changed. (No, it's not a place for you to ask us questions. What we have in each listing is the latest news we have.)

Also, please consider checking the listings of the pools you regularly use at home or when traveling, as your knowledge may be helpful to someone else who is unfamiliar with the area and visiting for the first time. Just go to the Add a Pool section of the site, read the first page, then fill out the questionnaire.

Facility Reviews

A stunning new pool in a health club under the Chang Feng Marriott in Shanghai. Small, sparkling blue tiles under a "starry" ceiling. Posh locker room and showers with towels, wet and dry slippers, bath robes, etc. No toys. [June, 2012]
The pool is not easy to find but worth the search. Located on basement level of the hotel, you check in at the health club desk just outside the elevators, where they give you a locker key. Store your stuff, put on the obligatory rubber sandals (provided in the locker), then follow a wandering maze of signs through about six or seven doors until you arrive at the pool. Keep the sandals on until you enter or exit the water as the marble floors are slippery. The pool is a beautifully mosaic tiled masterpiece, very serene, elegantly lit and furnished, and a full 25 meters by 10 meters with no annoying stairs or useless curves. The depth is a uniform 5 feet. There are no lane lines, stripes or turn targets, and the mosaic that runs up the walls from the bottom is confusing at first, but you get the hang of it after a while. The pool is infinity edged all around. I found that if I swam next to the far wall I could sight things pretty well and there are enough lights, inlet ports, etc., to help line things up. Whatever wake I put up just went over the edge, so being in an end ‘lane’ wasn’t an issue. The water temperature was pleasant, maybe 1º too warm, but tolerable for an entire work out. There was never ANYONE in the pool but me. Over four days I swam 2-3 K at 10 PM, 7:30 AM, 7:00 AM and 6:30 AM, and had it all to myself. The pool has an attendant who will request you shower (right there, poolside) and there are towels both in your locker and on the deck. I use a cap anyway, so I can’t say for sure, but I think using one is required. There was a nice stack of half a dozen kick boards if you felt so inclined. No clock of any kind, so bring a watch if you do intervals. Not the usual sort of place to do a work out but very nice and completely serviceable. It's part of a full service fitness center: private club-like locker room, sauna, Jacuzzi®, lockers, showers, towels, and attendant. [January, 2014]
