The pool opened in October, 2007.
The year-round outdoor pool opened in July, 2022.
In October, USA Swimming announced that the Triangle Aquatic Center has been chosen as the domestic training site for the U.S. Olympics team before the squad heads to Paris in July. See THIS ARTICLE.
Facility Reviews
This palatial facility is worth a visit if you're anywhere nearby. Heavily used but not overcrowded. Best to call in advance if you have your heart set on swimming long course as configurations, bookings, and events vary. The schedule on the web site wasn't quite accurate, but no trouble getting a lane. Friendly staff, state-of-the-art everything, clean facilities. You couldn't ask for more. Bring a towel or purchase one in the on-site swim shop. Extensive snack bar with healthy options.
This facility is worth hunting down, but call ahead to check on both pool schedules, the long course lane schedule, and, most importantly, whether there are any events being held here.
Hopefully the women’s showers are cleaner than they were in all my visits prior to 2017.
Disability alert:
There is a mobile electronic disability chair shared between the pools and it is likely not used often, so leave extra time if you or someone with you needs the chair to enter or exit pool, as it could easily take 15 minutes for the staff to coordinate this (and less time required if need to exit pool).
There is a door directly to the pool deck at the rear of the facility (on the north side of the building), but it is usually locked, call ahead to smooth navigation.
