Facility Notes
The club was started in the 19th century by English rowers. It's now the dominant professional football team in Brazil. It has youth football programs and sponsors amateur Olympic-track, rowing, swimming, water polo, gymnastics, volleyball, judo and more. A two-tier membership system allows many income levels to participate in sports and health-club facilities. Classes of school children use the pool weekday mornings.
Both of the pools listed above are of recent vintage; the first, a Myrtha pool, was installed in 2015, the second was built by a local contractor in 2019. Both of the pools can be configured with ten 50 meter lanes or twenty 25 meter lanes, but the Myrtha pool (Pool 1) is usually set up for long course swimming and the other pool is usually set up for short course swimming. The club's original 50m pool was demolished after the first new pool was opened in 2015.
In addition to the two pools listed above, the facility also has a 25m x 7m, unstriped, tots teaching pool; a shallow, 17m x 13m, 6 lane, beginners lane swimming and teaching pool; and a large, irregularly shaped family and leisure pool.
Facility Reviews
They don't seem to like the idea of more than two people sharing a lane, which is great, never crowded, a pleasure to swim...
The change rooms have all been totally refurbished - everything new - but half of it dysfunctional on occasions. A professional cleaning firm now looks after all the change rooms, which is an improvement over earlier conditions.
