Facility Reviews
The water can be quite cold (it’s used extensively for sports teams, but is colder than the Penn state pool), and has had quite high chlorine on at least one occasion.
This is a great pool and probably the best option for a short-term visit to State College. The $10 walk-in rate isn't cheap but I've never had to share a lane and the locker rooms and other facilities are perfectly fine. Bring your own lock and towel. I've been there ~10 times through the years and never noticed strong chlorine or particularly cold water, so the reviewer above might have gone on a bad day.
In summer I recommend one of the public outdoor pools like Park Forest or Welch Pool, both of which have good lap swim options (See the Center Region Parks and Recreation District's website's Aquatic Section [Eds.]), and the PSU Natatorium is worth checking out but its public swim hours are very restrictive and never seem convenient for my schedule.
