Facility Notes
Pool 1 is known as the "Royer Pool", the "WIC Royer Pool", the "HPER Pool", and the "SPH Pool". The diving well is in the same section of the building.
Pool 2 is known as "Pool 194". It's the university's original pool, in the old part of the gym, and opened with the building in 1917. It is used primarily for special purposes, such as when the other pools on campus are closed during breaks, and is regularly used for women-only swims. (Admission is covered with the same pass as the rest of the building.)
The pool's unusual length is thought to be due to the fact that Olympic standards had not yet been established when the pool was built and the 88-foot length works out so that exactly 60 lengths makes a mile.
The tile work in this part of the building includes swastikas. There's a plaque to explain that the pool was built back when the swastika was just a Hindu sign for peace, before the Nazis adopted it.

Facility Reviews
The Royer Pool is an older but perfectly fine pool. Considering that it's right in the middle of campus, it's surprisingly not too busy. You can borrow a towel for $1 and borrow locks for the day. The day pass also lets you use the gym facilities. Staff is super friendly. The other pool on campus is definitely bigger, newer, and better, but this one is really convenient.

This is a nice place to swim. It's older but clean, has equipment available to use, and the water was super clear and a good temp. It wasn't crowded on a Wednesday morning between 6 and 7. It has nice locker rooms and is conveniently located near downtown on the campus.
