Facility Reviews
A perfect temperature and the water was crystal clear.
This place is just magnificent. Crystal clear and everything spotless. The water temp most days [in February] was 81º (but boosted slightly as the air temps last week were in the 50s).They provide kickboards and pull buoys. If only New York was this good.
This facility is owned and operated by the public Florida International University. To obtain admission, visitors must register on the FIU web site and buy a community member guest pass. Call staff for detailed instructions. The admission price includes access to the varsity weight room, as well as locker room and showers. Pay for parking in the university's lot, close by.
Recently renovated and reopened, this competition pool has excellent water quality but, in summer, the temperature is unregulated and can approach 90ºF (32ºC).
Among the renovations, upgrades to the technical systems include an advanced lighting detection system that requires pool closure and deck clearance when lightning is detected - even when the lightning is far away. This results in frequent closures (much to the chagrin and anger of routine patrons) – with no refunds made. I had completed only 14 laps, when the guards cleared the pool and closed facility due to potential lightning. No storms followed for the next three hours, but the system continued to warn of lighting. The facility remained closed until the next day.
