Facility Notes
In October, 2021, the Swan Centre for Leisure will be closed and replaced by a new Berwick Leisure Centre at the same address. The new main pool will also be 25-metres, 5 lanes.
Facility Reviews
It's frequently closed to the public for use by schools. It's not really suitable for serious lap swimming. There is one main pool with annexes for children. It has a frequently used/on wave machine. Changing facilities are cramped for the size of the pool. In the summer it is heaving with children and families. For what is on offer it's expensive. Only used as a last report.
I used the pool for the 'Early Birds' and an afternoon 'Lane Swim', during school term. The pool was relatively quiet during the early morning session and regular swimmers were co-operative in leaving 'fast lane' free for those training. There was no lane put in for the 'Lane Swim' session, probably because the pool was so quiet. I asked if one could be put in, explaining that I wanted to train with and paddles, etc. and it would be good for safety; so they put a lane in for that session. The staff is reasonably helpful, but probably not used to seeing older swimmers training.
